Nakshatras & Lunar Mansions

Nakshatra Lords

Understand the planetary rulers of each Nakshatra and how they modify planetary influences.

Overview

Each of the 27 Nakshatras is ruled by one of the nine planets in a specific sequence. These Nakshatra lords add another layer of interpretation to planetary positions and significantly influence how planets express their energy.

When a planet is placed in a particular Nakshatra, it comes under the influence of that Nakshatra's ruling planet. This creates a sub-planetary influence that modifies the original planet's significations.

Understanding Nakshatra lordship is crucial for precise predictions and understanding the subtle nuances of planetary influences.

The Nakshatra Ruling Sequence

Nine Planets in Cycle

The ruling sequence follows a specific order: Ketu, Venus, Sun, Moon, Mars, Rahu, Jupiter, Saturn, Mercury, and then repeats. This sequence starts with Ashwini (Ketu) and continues through all 27 Nakshatras.

Each planet rules three Nakshatras in this cycle. For example, Ketu rules Ashwini, Magha, and Mula. Venus rules Bharani, Purva Phalguni, and Purva Ashadha.

The Nakshatra lord's own strength, dignity, and position in the chart significantly influence how the planet placed in that Nakshatra will behave.

  • Each planet rules exactly three Nakshatras
  • Cycle repeats three times through 27 Nakshatras
  • Nakshatra lord influences planet placed in that star
  • Lord's strength affects planet's expression
