Nakshatras & Lunar Mansions

Pada System

Master the four-fold division of Nakshatras and their precise influence on planetary placements.

Overview

Each Nakshatra is divided into four equal parts called Padas, each spanning 3°20'. These Padas are ruled by the four signs of the same element in the natural zodiac order.

The Pada system provides incredible precision in astrological interpretation, as it shows exactly which part of a Nakshatra a planet occupies and how this affects its expression.

Understanding Padas is essential for advanced predictive techniques and understanding the subtle variations within each Nakshatra.

Pada Structure and Rulers

Four-fold Precision

Each Nakshatra's four Padas follow a specific pattern based on the element of the first Pada. For example, if the first Pada falls in a fire sign, all four Padas will be fire signs in order.

The Pada rulers follow the natural sequence: Aries, Leo, Sagittarius for fire; Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn for earth; Gemini, Libra, Aquarius for air; Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces for water.

The planet ruling the Pada sign adds another layer of influence to planets placed in that specific portion of the Nakshatra.

Key Points

  • Each Nakshatra has four Padas of 3°20' each
  • Padas follow elemental sign sequences
  • Four elements: Fire, Earth, Air, Water signs
  • Pada rulers add additional planetary influence
  • Provides precise degree-based interpretation
